On December 12, 2022, three former US Navy SEALS and a retired US Marine launched from Spain’s Canary Island, La Gomera, in a rowboat race that would last no less than 30 days. What lies ahead? Rowing two men at a time, 2 hours on, 2 hours off–every hour, of every day–until they crossed the finish line 3000 miles away on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
With more than 700 days of team building, logistics and training leading up to this race they face total uncertainty. Through intimate interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, The Standard–a 2023 documentary film from Rogue Fitness–shows the enormous amount of mental and physical preparedness required for this competition; from building a team and a vessel in lockstep, to forging the trust and camaraderie needed to spend more than a month together in tight quarters, with only the food they brought and the fresh water they can make.
Team Shut Up & Row (SU&R) has recruited world renowned and world record holder Angus Collins and their coach and team manager. The team includes four U.S. Military veterans with well-earned reputations for tackling extreme challenges: James Hein, Chriss Smith and team captain Brian Nicholson, the SEALs and Rogue Journeyman Brian “Tosh” Chontosh, the Marine. They came together with a shared love of adventure and a mission to raise awareness and support for the Big Fish Foundation, a charitable organization, founded by Chontosh, that helps veterans transition to civilian life through a renewed connection to the fundamental principles of service.
